Sharing culture and song
Each year hundreds of people across Australia become sponsors to support Indigenous singers to attend the BIG SING IN THE DESERT.
Your contribution of $30/$50/$100 (or an amount of your choice) goes directly toward the costs of transport, accomodation and workshop expenses for singers from the Central Desert communities of Docker River, Mutijulu, Titjikala, Areyonga, Hermannsburg, and Alice Springs.
Big Sing Incorporated’s goal each year is to raise $25,000, which supports the participation of up to 50 Central Desert singers.
In May 2022, Big Sing in the Desert is having its 10th Anniversary and we would like to make it special. Help us to get people there.
“When we get together for the music, the singing, it’s like healing.
That’s what I see.”
Gwen Inkamala, Ntaria NT, sponsored singer at Big Sing in the Desert 2018.

The Song Keepers
Many singers from the Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir are regular participants at Big Sing in the Desert. This is made possible by our Sponsor an Indigenous Singer programme. Hilda, Daphne and Marion (pictured above) have been invaluable teachers and leaders at every Big Sing in the Desert since it began in 2010. I am honoured to know them and work with them.
View the trailer for the beautiful documentary film The Song Keepers which tells the story of the Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir’s tour to Germany with Morris Stuart in 2015.
