Bring Me Home
Listen to Bring Me Home sung by workshop participants in English, Pitjantjatjara, Western Arrarnta and Gathang at Big Sing in the Desert 2019, recorded at Ross River Homestead, Northern Territory.
The English words, music and choral arrangement for Bring Me Home were originally written by Rachel Hore to teach at Big Sing in the Desert 2016.
“This song came after seeing the Encounters exhibition at the National Museum in Canberra. I felt that if the objects had feelings and words, they might, perhaps, say this.” – Rachel Hore
At Big Sing in the Desert 2016, singers from the Central Desert communities immediately wanted to translate the words of Bring Me Home into their own languages. By the end of the weekend the song was sung in four languages: English, Pitjantjatjara, Western Arrarnta and Luritja.
Since then, Bring Me Home has also been translated into Gathang and Darug. This song continues to evolve. The version in the video is sung in English, Pitjantjatjara, Western Arrarnta and Gathang and was recorded at Big Sing in the Desert 2019 at Ross River Homestead, Northern Territory.
Thank you to the singers from near and far who have translated the words of this song into their own language:
- Pitjantjatjarra translation by Joy Yaritji Kunia, Margaret Poulson and Alison Anderson.
- Western Arrarnta translation by Lily and David Roennfeldt and Marion Swift.
- Luritja translation by Linda and Alison Anderson.
- Gathang translation by Rhonda Radley.
- Darug translation by Stacy-Jane Etal.
